Compulsive gamblers of all ages continually fear the day when they know they should stop playing. Most of them know when their personal resources dwindling day by day.

I remember the day I had ten thousand dollars still left in my savings account. The next day, I had five miles and a week later I had my account overdrawn by $ 150.00. Even though I realized that I had a problem, I could not stop my addiction. I wanted to play and win all the money I lost. I knew what I had to stop, but I refused and the end result was devastating for me. I had no money and nowhere to go. I still my job and my dream to win big one day. I thought I could never beat this addiction to the game, so I thought why bother. Then I realized I wanted to change my life for the better. I realized that I had to take one day at a time. I needed to slow my thoughts to the down and concentrate on one thing at a time. I learned to think of today and not worry about tomorrow.

When I wake up each morning usually not the cranky I decided whether I would play today. I am given the choice and at the same time, I thought of all destructive behaviors. This morning I decided that I did not play today. I realized that I told myself that I could never play again I was adding to much stress in my life.

Gamblers compound their stress when they say they will never play again. Life is too short and it is time to live up to.

It is important for the compulsive gambler to take stock in themselves and to educate to gambling, to find the appropriate program reecovery. Not everyone needs a program, but most require a form support. Support can come from a book of self-help and stop gambling chat room or by family friends. Always remember what works for indiviudal may not work for another, but learning what is available. Once that problem gamblers realize they are good people and they deserve the best in life seems to accelerate their recovery.
